safety and education

Safety and education is vital to any Safe Routes to School Program. Listed below are some examples of how to integrate safe bicycling and walking at your school. Contact kgreer@rideshare.org to integrate a safety activity at your school.

Walk/Bike Safety Assembly

(40 minutes) Geared towards children in grades K-3, Rideshare and the SLO County Bicycle Coalition team up to teach kids how to be a safe pedestrian. We cover rules for walking and cover the basics of bike safety.

Bike Safety Assembly

(40 minutes) Geared towards children in grades 4-6, we focus on the rules of the road for cyclists, tips for biking smart and safety checks for both the rider and their bike.

Bike Rodeo

A Bike Rodeo is a hands-on bicycle safety clinic to teach students how to ride safely. After an introduction to the rules of the road and safety measures, students ride a chalk course and practice what they have learned. This is also a great opportunity to do helmet fitting and bike safety checks.
