Infrastructure Maps

In response to increased need for infrastructure surrounding schools to be improved so students and families can walk and ride safely to school, Rideshare staff has begun inventorying all public schools in SLO County. Follow the link below to see a school's infrastructure inventory, a GIS map of a ½ and ¼ radius of the school, obesity data, collision (TIMS) data, speed data and vehicle counts.  All public schools will be surveyed by December 2014.  This data will be especially helpful to Public Works offices, School Districts and individual school sites who are looking for funding to make improvements in this climate of steep funding competition.

Safety and Education

Safety and education is vital to any Safe Routes to School Program. Listed below are some examples of how to integrate safe bicycling and walking at your school.

Walk/Bike Safety Assembly

(40 minutes) Geared towards children in grades K-3, Rideshare and the SLO County Bicycle Coalition team up to teach kids how to be a safe pedestrian. We cover rules for walking and cover the basics of bike safety.

Bike Safety Assembly

(40 minutes) Geared towards children in grades 4-6, we focus on the rules of the road for cyclists, tips for biking smart and safety checks for both the rider and their bike.

Bike Rodeo

A Bike Rodeo is a hands-on bicycle safety clinic to teach students how to ride safely. After an introduction to the rules of the road and safety measures, students ride a chalk course and practice what they have learned. This is also a great opportunity to do helmet fitting and bike safety checks.
